Ingredients

  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh herbs (such as chives or parsley)
  • 1 cup crushed nuts (walnuts or pecans)
  • 2 tbsp water or milk to help shape the cheese ball
  • white chocolate or icing as needed for web decoration
  • small edible spider decorations or black olives for spiders

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Plastic wrap
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Small spatula
  • Fine sieve or sifter
  • Knife

Method

  1. Place the softened cream cheese and shredded cheddar in a large mixing bowl. Use a spatula or spoon to thoroughly combine until smooth and uniform.
  2. Add chopped herbs into the cheese mixture and fold them in gently to distribute flavor and color.
  3. Spoon the mixture onto a piece of plastic wrap and shape it into a tight spherical ball. Use your hands or the spatula to smooth the surface.
  4. Wrap the cheese ball tightly with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, allowing it to firm up.
  5. Once chilled and firm, unwrap the cheese ball carefully and roll it in crushed nuts to coat the exterior with a crunchy layer.
  6. Use a fine sieve or sifter to dust a web design onto the cheese ball with white chocolate or icing, creating a web-like pattern on the surface.
  7. Decorate the web web with edible spiders or small black olives to add spooky details and complete the Halloween look.
  8. Place the finished Halloween Spider Cheese Ball on a serving platter and surround with additional crackers or vegetables if desired.
